Launch of the SME Connect Better Regulation Forum – Transparent Discussions for Sustainable and Inclusive Legislation

The SME Connect Forum for Better Regulation is dedicated to improving legislative processes. It seeks to enhance the evidence base, transparency, and systematic consideration of the impact on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in EU laws. The initiative places particular emphasis on the “Think Small First” principle and a robust SME Test to assess the potential impact of legislative proposals on SMEs. The official kick-off of the Forum will be in September.

The Better Regulation Forum intends to provide a Working Group for in-depth, comprehensive reflection and discussion on the impact of legislation on businesses. It aims to formulate recommendations for European institutions and encourage political and public dialogue by mobilizing the SME community, engaging with stakeholders from business, civil society, academia, and think tanks, and collaborating with European and national authorities. The aim of the Forum is to ensure that future legislation reflects the practical realities of SMEs and gains sustainable acceptance in society.

The initiators of the Forum are the Taxpayers Association of Europe (TAE), the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers (ZPP), the European Economic Senate (EES), Danish Entrepreneurs (DI), and the European Enterprise Alliance (EEA).

The Forum invites all SME Connect members to join and welcomes others interested in participating in the open dialogues and activities. The results, compiled by the participating members, represent their positions and perspectives. SME Connect provides the organizational framework for the Forum, serving as a neutral platform.
